Trapped

Trapped

A Poem by Sara Elyse Abrams

I am trapped,

Trapped in a vicious cycle,

A cycle of forcing a pill down my throat,

And as I gasp for air,

I force it down with water.

I am trapped,

Trapped in a cycle of anxiety,

A cycle caused by the pills,

But when I don’t take them,

The anxiety still roars.

I am trapped,

Trapped in a mortifying cycle,

A cycle of a weakness,

That can never be cured,

So I will fight forever.

I am trapped,

Trapped in a soul crushing cycle,

A cycle of going to work,

Just to come home and drown in more,

But if I don’t stay I will be there forever.

I am trapped,

Trapped in a cycle of torment,

With people trying to make me snap,

But I won't let them,

So I suffer alone instead.

I am trapped,

Trapped in a cycle of acting,

Putting on a show for the whole world,

Acting like everything is fine,

When I know it is not.

I am trapped,

Trapped in a cycle of poetry,

So I won't go insane,

So I can show who I am,

While also hiding everything.

This is incredibly relatable and haunting at the same time. I don’t understand the last line though, not sure it’s a spelling error or something personal

The Last line was a typo. Thanks for telling me and thank you for this review.
Gripping and grim, this one. Anxiety disorders make dealing with everyday tasks difficult, let alone dealing with obnoxious people. The speaker here seems to be walking a path alone, with no support, putting up a good front. A hard way to live, when medication combined with therapy has helped so many. Fortunately, poetry seems to provide a constructive outlet for the stress.
PS:Don't understand the first word of the last line.
