It Happened

It Happened

A Poem by Jamie Taylor

It happened. We happened. It all happened.
The time we spent together. That weekend.
It all happened. As much as I wish it didn’t.

No rewind button to give me back the time you wasted.
No playback to remind me of the love I tasted.
But, the whole time, I kept myself braced.
For, what was to happen, I could foretaste.

“I love you, baby. We’re meant to be. You are my life.
Marry me? I promise to treat you right. Please, be my wife.”
Little did I know that you would only stab me with a knife.
And now that I think about it, we were always at strife.

Fight. Fight. Fight. That was all we did.
Don’t forget, all those lies that were hid.
When I met you, I could feel my heart had slid.
Now that love’s over. Time to close the lid.

I moved on. And, obviously, so have you.
Just remember I love you. I really do.
I didn’t ruin it. Baby, it takes two.
Had I known all this before.. If only I knew..
