Adolescent AdventuresA Story by Jamie TaylorWrote this year for English xDWe were walking
through the jungles of This forest is known for keeping unsuspecting explorers “hostage”. Millions of people have traveled to Vermillion in search of the cave. Not one has made it back alive to tell their story. The island is four hundred thousand acres of dense trees and dangerous creatures. You never could truly know what was hiding behind that bush right there, or what was lying in the trees high above you. Everywhere you looked could be a new adventure, whether it be exciting or horrifying, it was still an adventure. Every corner you turned, you could not even imagine what to expect. One time, Brianna went ahead of us to find a trail of run-down weeds so that we did not have to walk through the dense brush, and when she moved a hanging tree branch, a giant snake fell down onto her. She screamed bloody murder. Erika and I laughed when we looked at the “snake” up close, which was really just a tree vine. “Hey! I hear a waterfall”, I exclaimed and bounded ahead of my fellow explorers. They quickly followed after. We ran for a good, hard fifteen minutes or so. They were the longest fifteen minutes of my life. I thought cleaning my room spotless was hard, but it is nothing compared to running through fallen trees, poisonous snakes, and bugs. When we finally reached our destination, I wanted to faint. Not only because of the fact that I had never ran nor will I ever run as far as we just did in my life, but also because the cave entrance was up a sixty foot tall cliff. Brianna, the strongest, did some extreme rock-climbing and scaled the cliff in twenty minutes. She then tossed down a rope that she took out from her backpack and pulled Erika and I up. There we stood, at the entrance of the cave of magical unicorns. “Girls! It’s getting late. Come inside and wash up for dinner” Mom yelled. “Awh, Mom! We were just about to enter the magical cave,” I whined. “The cave will still be there in the morning tomorrow,” she said. “Your mommy is right, we should go inside. Plus, look. It is going to rain soon,” Erika said. She pointed up at the sky. All of us looked and saw it was turning gray. All sighing, we proceeded to go inside. © 2010 Jamie Taylor |
