My friend Alivea and I are witches, but not like the ones you read in all those fake books or in those terrible movies. We do not have green skin, big noses, or pointy hats. We absolutely do not fly on wooden brooms! All that stuff is just a stupid stereotype, just like how people think we have warts all over our faces. Alivea and I look just like any normal teenage girls, it is just that we can cast spells.

One day, we decided to cast a spell that would make her find her soul mate faster. We got out “Witchcraft for Dummies”. The book had a rough feeling and was very old looking. We looked up the spell, Encuentre a su compañero de alma. (In English, it is “Find your soul mate faster”). When we found it, on page fifty-seven, we found out that we were missing one of the main ingredients. Thyme. Alivea’s mom knew where some wild thyme grew all year round in the mountains. We headed out the door, and Aliveas mother said “Don’t forget, be careful of the caves because the magical Komodis lives in them.” Ah yes, good old Komodis. I have heard the tale of the giant Komodo dragon that lives in one of the caves up high in the mountains about a million times. I thought that story was fake, until now.

We had been hiking for an hour, and found a cave. The cave looked scary and had a very eerie feeling, but Alivea and I were very adventurous, so we went inside. The cave was dark, but not so dark that we could not see. All we could hear as we walked in was the soft dripping of little drops of water into a little shallow pool deep inside the daunting cave. It smelled damp and musty. As we kept on walking, I tripped over a tiny pebble onto the floor. The floor was all rock, and it felt very cold. I got up and threw the pebble as far as I possibly could. We never heard it hit the ground.

I shouted into the dark whole that we called the cave, “Hello! Is there anybody in here?! Anyone at all!?” and then, Alivea jumped. There must have been a thousand bats flying over our heads! We could feel the wind from their wings against our face. “I am so thirsty.” Alivea complained. We found a tiny, little pool of water. We both bent down, cupped our hands, and got some water. It tasted terrible! It was like drinking water that was sitting in a dirty bucket for weeks. What should I expect water that has been in a cave on the floor for who knows how long to taste like? We kept on walking. The entrance of the cave kept getting smaller and smaller until it was out of sight.

Suddenly, we heard a faint sound. It sounded like someone walking, but not quite exactly a person. “Oh my gosh. What if this is Komodi Cave? You know! Where Komodis lives?!” Alivea cried. I quickly calmed her down, “Those are just child stories Alivea. There is no such thing as…” That was when I heard it, the call of Komodis. It is so scary and terrible that I cannot even describe it if my life depended on it! Before either of us could speak, we started running. We were not sure of where we were running, but anywhere was fine as long as it was away from here. “Eww! I ran into a spider web!” Alivea cried. Still, we on kept running.

That was when I remembered, “Alivea, remember in the stories? Didn’t they say something about Komodis being allergic to the sun?” Alivea said, “Yes! Let’s lure him out!” That is exactly what we did. We ran our little legs off until we got to the outside of the cave. We saw Komodis. He looked huge, maybe one thousand fifty pounds and about ten feet long and five feet tall. He had long, sharp teeth and evil looking eyes. He started charging towards us, and then he saw the light. He let out a grunt and ran back into the cave.

People to this day do not believe our story, but we know and that is all that matters. Alivea and I have not explored another cave ever since that day, and I learned that the stories told by parents are not just fake stories to make you go to bed quicker. They are real… Most of the time.
