Snowstorm in the Summertime

Snowstorm in the Summertime

A Poem by LoneStranger

I used to wander with you

wishing on those old dandelions.

Our laughter fueling their flight,

their freedom

from their prison on the ground,

and we used to leap

high, amongst the white,

jumping as if we too could

fly.

We were full of hope as they floated

mid-air, surrounding us.

A snowstorm in the summertime.

We watched with no remorse,

with a child's ignorance,

no understanding as our

summer snowflakes spiraled

down.

Our silent breath froze them in mid-air,

and we tried to catch some

on our tongues, in our hands

but at our touch they melted

from our hearts.

The rest

fell,

as frozen tears

our souls subconsciously wept.

We crushed our dreams

and we left them trampled

beneath every crunching step

as we walked away.

Our footprints disappearing beneath

the snowflakes falling one by one

from the sky in the middle of the summertime,

leaving no trace of our existence

and the calm rages on.

Beautiful, beautiful write that expresses such a longing for the dreams not to be crushed. I love the way you decided to finish it in such an almost oxymoronic way. "The calm rages on" creates such a conflicting image in my mind but yet so does the "snowstorm in summertime'. It was such a pleasure to read your words.
