You and IA Poem by Mae Arrowood
I want to unscrew the lid and explore your mind,
before they do, before they ruin you. Before they crack your head like a shell, break the consequential yoke, and devour all the protest you spoke. I want to reach into your heart and smooth out the wrinkles, blow off the dust, scrape off the rust, I want to touch the cusp. And dip my fingers in until the cool comfort of your emotions dribbles down the bends in my spine, the curves in my rhyme, oozes into the hands of time, because everyone needs a moment. I want to take a needle and sew your lungs up before you choke, because your life went up in smoke, and what you've inhaled is some kind of sick joke, but only to you, and freedom is nothing to joke about. I want to cover you with a blanket to ward off the chill, But I'm the one that's shivering and you are standing still? As the night passes, we can rummage through our thoughts, and I will try, And I will fail, to untangle all the knots. Years pass, lights die out, and we think we know, what life is all about. We will be humbled, lying on the floor, and I will help you up though my back is getting sore. And when we breathe in, but the breath doesn't come, we will finally know where we came from.
