Backyard of Broken Dreams

Backyard of Broken Dreams

A Poem by Sarah Jane
"

My backyard has fallen into disarray since my parents split. Even more so because it's that time between fall & winter and everything's gloomy.

"

I look across the desolate landscape

Overgrown, untouched, unloved

Chaos and in disarray, wilderness pursues

In my backyard of broken dreams

I walk across the weed-filled walk

Everything’s gone and everything’s brown

Once filled with hopes and dreams

In my backyard of broken dreams

The lone tree covers the landscape

Spreading its seeds of woe

Crushing and bleak, no sun shines here

In my backyard of broken dreams

Forgotten items bought in love

Attempts at beauty long buried

No love is found here anymore

In my backyard of broken dreams

Deep stillness, unconditional solace

Sitting, weeping, wishing for more

Can’t reach out, no one’s there

In my backyard of broken dreams

Very good. The backyard used as a metaphor for your parents breakup was inspiring. It must have been hard to write this. Poetry comes from the heart. Thank you for sharing.

Like your dog, by the way.

Such a beautiful piece. The words involved really live up to the great title, in my opinion. I enjoyed this. :) Keep it up.
