The Shattered FriendA Poem by Sarah Al JanabiFor a friend who went through difficult times in her life
I saw her soul before she revealed it to me
Those fragments shattered and hid deep beneath For some reason they shone bright to me For some reason i saw my reflection in it She was falling i could see Slipping slowly into the pit In which my soul was already trapped Arms stretched wide ready to catch She fell gently like a leaf in the wind Sat beside me and i said begin Unfold your story let it spill Tell me everything you keep within I sat silently with ears intent Most importantly with a heart content To hear what struggles she's been through To hear what i knew had hurt me too Though i uttered not a word When her tale had been told I somehow touched her heart With my fingers that were so cold But the warmth of her heart melted mine I felt reborn from another time Her surreal kindness hit me hard We were as from then each others guards © 2014 Sarah Al Janabi |
