I Am a Narcissus with Low Self-Esteem

I Am a Narcissus with Low Self-Esteem

A Poem by Sarah Hawkinson

I’m naïve and I love it.

I’m not always honest.

I’m not gullible.

I know a lot.

I’m a writer who doesn’t always like reading.

I will never lose my faith in humanity; don’t test me.

I will never stop biting my nails; I just go through phases.

I accept that.

I am a narcissus with low self-esteem.

This is a wonderful poem, I love the way you have been so honest about loving the characteristics that are generally conceived as bad or wrong. Especially the line "I'm not always honest", which ironically you are being honest about.
I think any person who reads this poem would find it very relatable because it taps into the complexities of the human mind and how we find delight in our own suffering and hardships, similar to the way that Nietzsche describes will to power.
It is also very refreshing to not read poems that rhyme, I think this style leaves room for deeper thinking than a rhyming poem with word restrictions would.
Overall this is a brilliant poem! :)
