When you taught me to speak I started to sing,

So you taught me to walk and I just ran,

So you taught me some fear so I couldn’t run away

You made me believe that I really had to stay

 

Then you showed me how to trust men who lie and cheat

So I always go out with the boys who hurt me

And I will continue hurting every day of my life

Then one day one of those men will call me his wife

 

And we will look happy on the outside like you once did

While he keeps me on the inside committing his sin

But it will be normal to me because you never did teach

That one point that you really needed to reach

 

That you are a good mother and you made your mistakes

One’s that you wish you could take back so we didn’t hurt

But we did hurt and there is nothing you can do to change it
