payphone lullaby

payphone lullaby

A Story by Sarah Wolf
"

why do rocks sink

"
im sorry mommy
3 words written in ink stains
her tears would not bring him home
he was gone
like a dream the 17 years had faded so quickly
she questioned if he was real
she was insane
she'd never had a son
or did she?
the phone rings at 9:00 sharp each night from a different number
a familiar voice would say 'It's me, sam"
refusing to question it, she'd sing 1 more lullaby
sam wasnt coming home anytime soon
