SeventeenA Chapter by Sara
Kimberly
leaned against the wall as students streamed into the hallway. She was waiting
for David to show up she had a plan and needed David to co-operate.
“Kimberly?” a
hand tapped her on the shoulder. Kimberly looked up at Heather who had an
apologetic look on her face. “I was going
to make up with you about the Dance committee thing but then I heard James
broke up with you. Are you okay?” “He said he
broke up with me?” Kimberly scoffed but then she shrugged. “Well what ever I
don’t really care.” Heather
wasn’t fooled and pulled Kimberly into a hug. Kimberly struggled to keep her face straight.
Despite trying as hard as she could tears still slipped out of her eyes. Heather
pulled her toward the bathroom, past David. Kimberly didn’t
miss the guilty look that graced his face. She covered her face to hide the
smile her lips were making. This had turned out better then she planned.
David frowned
and bit his lip as he dialed the combination to his locker. He pushed his hair
back and looked nervously toward the girls’ bathroom. He hoped that
Heather would get more information about what happened to the DVD then he
managed to get from Richard. For a brief
second David felt bad, it looked like James, being the jerk he was, had really
hurt Kimberly. David touched the
bandages on his knuckles and David knew from experience how that felt. James wasn’t
important right now, getting the DVD was. James claimed he left the DVD at Richard’s
house and Richard refused to admit that he had seen it at all. David
couldn’t be sure that Richard was lying. For all her knew James had lied still
had it, or Kimberly picked it up, or that Heather had it was making an idiot
out of him.
David opened
his locker and froze. He shut it closed quickly looking over his shoulder. David waited
until the hallway was empty until he opened his locker again.
There was
pictures of Lawrence taped all over the inside of his locker with the words ‘ I know your secret ’ scrawled in black
felt pen.
David quickly
ripped down the most of the pictures, his heart pounding against his ribs. He
dumped the printed pictures into a nearby garbage can. He walked back to his
open locker only to find that the pictures were only the beginning.
David bent
down to find a package sitting on top of his books. On it in the same felt pen
the word ‘READ ME. OR you’ll regret it.’
David looked
over his shoulder a second time. Looking for the culprit, but the hallway was
almost deserted. David frowned, shutting
his locker.
He stepped
out the hallway, nearly bumping into a now composed looking Kimberly with
Heather in tow. “Hi, David.”
Kimberly mumbled as she glanced down at the package in his hands. Heather
smiled at David and rose an eyebrow at David red face.
David
practically sprinted out the back of the school building, convinced that
Heather, Kimberly or both were now figuring it all out.
How had he
thought his past could be kept secret forever. People like Lawrence had a way
of coming back, with vengeance. David shook
his head how had Lawrence known what school, he went to? How had he found his
locker from the hundreds that lined the school walls? How had he know his
locker combination?
David stepped
out onto the school snowy field before he felt it was safe to open the package.
Inside he found a DVD and a printed letter titled ‘Your Instructions’. David gulped
and read the letter. © 2013 Sara |
