A Chapter by Sara

David got to Richard’s door first.  He froze when he got there, unsure of what to say when he knocked.  He stood there staring at the door so intently he did notice when someone came up behind him.

“Hi, David. Are you alright?” Kimberly said tapping him on his shoulder.

David turned around startled. “Hi Kimberly, did James make it here?” He asked looking around for James.

“Yeah but he just left.” Kimberly said pursing her lips. Kimberly resisted the urge of saying something nasty, she couldn’t let anyone know David and James had made her look like an idiot. Her pride wouldn't let her.

“Where’s your girlfriend?” Kimberly asked looking down at her shoes.

David looked up at Kimberly confused as Heather finally caught up.

“David, did you find James yet?” Heather said breathing hard. She glanced at Kimberly and smiled thinly before turning back to David. “You gotta talk to him, and get the disc back.”

David froze again and Heather sighed. “You might want to hurry up, you need it back before he watches it. Unless you want him to see it?” Heather asked shaking David’s shoulder. That seemed to kick David into gear.

“Where’d he go?” David asked Kimberly who was frowning.

“Home.” she said pointing in the direction he went. David went running after him, Heather on the other hand was still feeling the effects of the run.

“Yeah, I’ll catch up.” She called after him as she slowly walked in the same direction.

Kimberly shook her head as she unlocked Richard’s front door. She pushed it open tossing the keys onto the counter. It slid across the counter hitting her wallet and stopping at the envelope with DVD James left behind.

Kimberly looked at the envelope and then thought of the strange encounter she just had with David and Heather.

Kimberly knew she should probably give it to David or Heather, but James shouldn't have been dating both her and David, not to mention whatever was going on between Heather and David.

Kimberly blanched at the tangled web that, until a few minutes ago had been her relationship. She walked up to Richard’s workroom, and knocked. “Hey, you in there?” She asked.

“Damit, Kimberly I thought you went home.” A sleepy looking Richard asked opening his bedroom behind her.

“Yeah, I was but I need to use your computer real quick.”

“Whatever, just lock the door when you leave.” Richard said kicking his door closed.

Kimberly opened the door and found the computer’s password on a sticky note in one of the drawers.

Then Kimberly got up a took the DVD from the counter and watched as the computer automatically played the DVD.

Kimberly watched as an empty computer chair appeared on the screen. Then a tall, light haired and well-toned boy of about seventeen came on screen.

He, Kimberly noticed, looked tired and a little sad, that is until he started talking.

“Hey, David. It’s Lawrence here, in case you’ve forgotten me already.” He said with an expression, which was dark and amused. Kimberly recognized the look, she's caught it on her own face more then once when she thought James was cheating. It was betrayal.

“You made this very hard to get to you. You deleted you Facebook and Twitter account, changed your number and moved. But I found you. You can’t f*****g hide from me.” He said staring at the screen with an intensity that chilled Kimberly to the bone.

“Don’t worry I haven’t told anyone else.  This is going to be my own personal revenge. I already know all about you and your new friend. What was his name? James?” He said looking down at sheet of paper in his hands. A smile creped up on his face.

“I just was wondering if you’ve met his girlfriend Kimberly yet?” He said laughing. “You’ve always been a sucker David. I surprised you managed to keep what happen here a secret for so long, I’m going to enjoy every bit of what’s going to happen to you.”

“I just wanted you to know what an idiot you are. And I wanted to be the one who finally told you about Kimberly. Don’t think this is over when this tape ends. I’m going to f**k-up your life as badly as mine was and this time there won’t be anywhere to run.” With that the video ended. Kimberly stared at the dark screen as she realized that David was much a victim of James stupidity as she was herself.

For some reason it made Kimberly feel better, and it set her mind racing through the last few days. All the encounters she's had with David, and suddenly everything made sense.

Kimberly stood up to eject the DVD when the DVD started up again, this time a slide show of Kimberly and James together on dates; hugging, holding hands and kissing.

Kimberly felt the old confortable and familiar burn begin at the back of her neck. Kimberly was angry, more angry then she could ever remember being.
