FourteenA Chapter by SaraDavid looked
up from the screen and looked at Heather confused. “Keep
watching, he goes on for a while before he gets to the point.” David looked
at the screen and then shook his head. “Heather I don’t get it. You made it
seem really important that I watch it. It’s a great movie, but I’ve already
seen it.” “What?
Really?” Heather said leaning in. Her tilted her head as a beautiful New
Zealand landscape came into view. “Yeah, The
Hobbit, I’m going to guess this was a mix-up.” David smiled as he watched Heather make a round O with her mouth. She laughed and looked at David who she noticed was only inches away. Heather moved
back with a shy smile, the David entirely missed. “Oh no, this
is mine.” She said pressing eject. “But I don’t understand, I switched our DVD’s so
that I could show it to later.” “You mean
before you went to the bathroom.” “Yes, why?” “Cause I
might of given James it by accident. You know it was on top of the math
textbook. I thought it was the Cd the book came with but…” David said opening
the book and revealing a CD in the CD pouch. “…it’s still here.” “And James it
heading right for Richard. We can’t let Richard get his hands on it.” Heather
said jumping up. “Why? What’s
on it.” “It was a
movie message from someone named Lawrence.” Heather said pulling on David’s
arm. David turned
white, “What did he say?” “You’ll see
we have to get it back first. Come on!” It wasn’t long before they both were
tearing down the now dark street as fast as they could. Thwack, thwack, thwack. Kimberly sighed as she
through the tennisball against the wall again. Twack, twack, twack, thawak,
thump. Richard caught the ball in his hand. “Give it
back.” Kimberly whined. “Not if you
keep ruining the wall.” “I’m not
ruining it.” “My house, my
wall.” Kimberly
huffed and crossed her arms. Both Kimberly
and Richard looked up as they heard a knock on the door. Richard looked at
Kimberly “Are you going to open it?” He asked. “Your house,
your door.” She said with a shrug. Richard shook
his head and went to the door. He opened it as far as the chain would let him.
“What do you want?” He asked in his old slow and sleepy way. “Heather told
me she was here.” “Who?”
Richard said stifling a yawn. “Come on I’m not f*****g around.” James said hitting the door with the heel of his hand. “Are you sure about that.” James said with a faux-knowing smile. “Richard
that’s enough. Let him in already.” Kimberly said. Richard
looked back at her and shrugged. “Whatever.” He closed the
door, unhooked the chain and let James in past the door. James walked
in and stopped when he saw Kimberly looking sad. “What’s
wrong?” James asked, his anger instantly vanishing. “It’s Sandy.”
Kimberly lied. “She’s in the hospital.” “Oh, I
thought, never mind what I thought.” James said stepping in to give Kimberly a
hug. Kimberly stepped back. “Can I get my phone back.” “Okay, sure”
he said. He reached into his pockets taking out the DVD in an envelope, his keys from his outer jacket. His
wallet and phone before he found Kimberly’s cellphone and wallet. “Thanks.” She
said smiling at him. James put his arm around her but again she resisted, even when he trained his most charming smile. “Actually,
James there’s something we have to talk about.” © 2013 Sara |
