David paused for a moment before he opened the door.

“What are you doing here James? Did you lose something? Your bag? Your jacket? Your common sense, a couple of dozen IQ points maybe?”

“You seem…”

“Amazingly awesome, so awesome you’re shamed by awesomeness.” David said with a shoulder shrug. “Are you waiting for the sky to fall in for NASA to send a probe to investigate your giant ego.”

“… I was going to say better. Anyway Can I come in? It’s kind of cold out here.” James said, ignoring David’s well-thought-out array of insults.

“I don’t generally allow a******s past a certain integral vicinity. You’re border-lining that integer, sir.

“Your neighbors will see me then they’ll want to know what I’m doing out here.” James hinted.

“You know I was hoping for a battle of wits but you doesn’t seem to be armed. I never like you for you brains anyway. Fine, but your out of here in five minutes or less.” David said walking into the living room. James closed and locked the door behind him he glanced toward David and his bedroom and smiled faintly.

“So what do you want?” David asked dropping into a chair he rested both hands behind his head and leaned back on the chair.

“I want to explain.” James said sitting on the couch. He leaned forward and looked at David for a moment before he spoke.

“I still love you.”

“What about Kimberly?” David said ignoring how the words made him feel. He crossed his arms and forced his mouth further into a frown. But James was looking into his eyes, and his eyes said it all.

“Forget about her, she doesn’t matter. I care about you, and I’m pretty sure you still..”

“F**k you.” David said suddenly standing up.

“..care about me.” James stood up grabbing David’s arm and deliberately pulled him in. David couldn’t catch his breath James was too close.

‘What do I care about Kimberly?’ the thought crept up on him. ‘It’s not like James cares about her like he does me.’

Then David remembered Kimberly’s long hug as James pulled her back into the elevator. David laughed coldly and James looked surprised.

“That is not going to happen James.” David said stepping away. David breathed a sigh of relief as he walked back to his chair and sat down. He wasn’t going back.

James smiled. “Are you sure about that?”

“Yes James I am.”

“Even though you still love me.”

David glared at James but didn’t say anything. James smiled “So where’s your sister? She still at work?”

“Why are you here?” David sighed violently ruffling his hair.

“I want you to believe me, it’s not what you think.”

“Your not dating Kimberly, cause I think she’d disagree..” David scoffed.

“I am but it’s not like I care about her.”

“Is that all.”

“What?” James asked confused.

“Is that all your going to say? I really thought you’d step up your game. You were good enough to fool me and good enough to fool Kimberly, but you gotta know when to give up man.”

“I’m not trying to"” James began before David cut him off.

“James your wasting you time here. I don’t believe a single word that happens to slip out between you lips.”

James looked hard and long at David frowning. He pursed his lips and almost as though he suddenly understood something he nodded and smiled.

“I give you some time David but know nothing real is happening with me Kim. Not like us.” James said standing up to leave. David stood up to following him out when James suddenly turned around. He leaned in and kissed David before David could react.

James winked as he walked out the door. David kicked the door closed.
