A Chapter by Sara

Richard had discovered this closet was a hotspot for illicit activity long ago and he had taken precautions, being the one who was supposed to be in charge of the room.

Richard stepped onto a chair before reaching behind a mop head so he can take out his laptop. He quickly opened up the live feed of the building’s security system and watched as an on-screen James grabbed an off-screen David by what he guessed was his throat and as David retaliated with a punch.

‘Oh, this is interesting.’ He chuckled. Now how to use this, Kimberly might have put him up to this but it didn’t mean he had to tell her right away. There were a few things he wanted to do first like finding everything about David Kennedy and what Kimberly’s douchebag boyfriend had to do with him.

Kimberly was waiting for Richard when he came in for work the next morning.

“Damn Kimmie, do you ever sleep in?” Richard said sleepily, shuffling past her.

“Richard!” She hissed, walking through security with him. They both showed her employee badge before she continued, “I know you’ve found something.”

“And how do you know that?” Richard asked as he waved sluggishly at a co-worker who nodded back.

“You haven’t answered any of my calls, not even to complain about the favor you were doing for me.”

“Favor?” Richard asked, raising his eyebrow, his sluggishness vanishing. “I thought I made it clear I was not doing this for free.”

Kimberly was quiet for a moment, frowning when she realized what he wanted.

“Fine, I’ll ask her for you, but I don’t promise anything.” Kimberly said. She stepped forward in a way that looked like she was about to storm off.

“Where you off to?” He said, pulling on her sleeve, suddenly sluggish again.

“Away from you.”

“Aw, you can’t treat your cousin like that. What would your mom say?” Richard said slowly with a smile.

“Richard, just get to the point and tell me.”

“I think it’s better if I just show you what I’ve found.” He said, leading Kimberly towards the supply closet.

David sighed as he dumped his bag onto his computer chair and out tumbled his work uniform out of the unzipped bag. He turned around thinking about dinner when he heard something hard tumble out the jacket part of his uniform.

David glanced down at what looked like a blank DVD case and frowned. That didn’t belong to him but then it dawned on him that James might have slipped it into his bag when he’d come to see him. David picked it up and opened the case while his heart pounded painfully in his chest.

‘I should throw this out without looking at it.’ David thought to himself.

David shook his head and lobbed the DVD next to his computer and headed toward the kitchen. It was time for a sandwich. David would decide what he would do with the DVD later when it didn’t hurt to think. He’d just taken his first bite when his doorbell rang,

David checked his watch frowning; his sister shouldn’t be home until real late. David chewed as the doorbell continued to ring.  He sighed, getting up as he decided that a salesmen would’ve given up by now. Looking through the peephole, he saw James standing with his hands in his pockets.
