impermanent as the sea / impermanent as you & me

impermanent as the sea / impermanent as you & me

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

is nothing permanent? nothing secure?
the query is a quest; I ache inside.
as I watch the ocean ebb and flow
(and remember all the nights
i had to watch him go...)

new love fades and passion abates
(we've all watched love transform to hate)

a child's innocence can dissipate...
turn into cuts upon her arm
and a finger in her throat

-letters to a lover can become
empty words the heart once wrote-

it all seems so malleable
so transient and bittersweet

(but i'm laying in the sun,
so perhaps it's just the heat)

is permanence a figment
of my over-hopeful heart?

the idea that someone will adore me
each day of my life
(not become sick with me or too quick with me)

and make love to me each night.

sweet constancy sweet constancy
how i wish to hold you tight

my fear of the future
is only matched by the notion
that i could be someone's tide

and he would be my ocean.

Your words always lift me above the transient world, transporting me to a deeper, more beautiful place. And you (if anyone) will find such love, full and free, for you truly are such love. Thank you for enriching all our lives with your words...

Oh my oh my... although we always dream about it the thought of someone completely excepting us and loving us for who we are can also be a scary thing... what can I say but those filled with such superb lines that question ourselves and the deep meaning of love...

my fear of the future
is only matched by the notion
that i could be someone's tide

and he would be my ocean.

These line in particular end the poem with such a breathtaking revelation well I'm left holding my heart.

Yes, feelings and emotions ebb and flow like the ocean tides
you capture it well, the only part I can be critical of is the
laying in the sun part, it brought me momentarily away from
the sadness you were trying to convey
Last 4 lines are superb, and it's out there

You captured the ocean well, using it for impermanence. I've worked on the ocean for almost twenty years and never forget how impermanent we all are. Well done.

This is excellent Kara, and it echoes the fears we all have of love, or our hopes of being loved! With your skill and your lovely features, you are bound to be the "Ocean" for many guys! I love the skill with which you have conveyed the deepest thoughts and hopes into a poignant and delightful poem!

Beautifully written... "letters to a lover can become empty words the heart once wrote"... this is piercing... powerful. Very nice.

I hear the cry of a woman in this poem... laced with the lies of a woman... braced by the sighs of a woman... basted by the wry of a woman...

Altogether beautiful... beautiful all together.

I adore this part. I believe that one of the only reasons we fall in love is because we feel the need to make a difference in this world, and having someone be affected by our adoring them is the quickest to show results.

new love fades and passion abates
(we've all watched love transform to hate)

I also understand completely the idea of beginning to hate someone so that way it won't hurt as much when you know you've lost them.

Really beautiful connection you've drawn up here with the ocean and emotions. Nicely done.
