The plum tree blossomed
and she knew Spring
was here.
She was young
and therefore moved fluidly
from yesterday's winter to today's spring
like the ever-pleasing honey bee--
the flowers blend one into the next
(and she forgets)
the purpose of the journey.
But she is here now.
The plum tastes so sweet upon her tongue
and she is young
and there is music in the air.
She questions her looks - when she should realize
-she will never be more beautiful-;
dewy tears on milky skin and honeyed lips.
Joy is fleeting, but so are smiles
and they always seem to come back for more...
So maybe she's in luck.
The plum is soft and malleable
-so is her heart-
which makes her easy prey but she
is full of innocence
and so blissfully
she will be
broken.
There will be a journey and along the way she will forget
the sensation of the sweet plum
upon her tongue.
Beautiful piece of work. Very atmospheric
I have a plum tree and though it looks bare just now soon it will be covered with blossom and then that fruit - so fresh, sweet and vibrant when you eat it straight from the tree.
And you convey a spirit of optimism despite the inevitable forgetting on the journey.
This is an awesome poem. But I am sure you know that. It is deliciously written and tastily formed. It embodies all that is young womanhood and cherishes it in a manner that is most divine.I applaud your success.
Captured the taste of innoncence beautfully. The spring blossoming of a plum tree and a girl eating of the tree. A girl with a soft heart about to be broken. Lovely poem.
I imagined the taste of plum - I liked the section where she questions her appearance and needs to realize she will never be more beautiful - the sweetness of this piece fit the title fantastically - great job - Leah
Wonderful, sweet Kara, an equivalent meaning to my man's enigma. Yes, so it is! Bravo!

A very tactile piece! I love the image of the beautiful young girl biting into a plum (I love plums, have a plum tree in my backyard that is in bloom right now), and I think I like this image so much because it reminds me of when I was about 15 years old and spent time at my grandparents ranch, where there were many plum trees, and how innocent and naive I was. I'm a little older now, a little more jaded, but as you said, smiles always seem to come back, and I certainly found one when I read this poem. Thank you!
I am resolved to never be content with the lives of "quiet desperation" which so many of us lead, to continuously challenge myself, and forever walk in Beauty.
I like pandas. I like writing poe.. more..
