my greedy heart

my greedy heart

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

how greedy is the human heart.

one moment content to be within an embrace
the next wanting more than a mere
moment's taste.

how greedy, how needy, how desperate it can be.
clouding reality
of all clarity.

simpering here, the heart sits and pouts.
needing more than it thought before.
(more than it's even prepared
to ask for.)

how greedy is this human heart.

filled with warmth for that which draws near.
…simultaneously pulling away
-pulling away-
in fear.

how greedy, how needy, how foolish it can be.
reaching deep into the earth
for serenity.

Deep. Very deep. I feel you touched on a primitive emotion in this one. We can be so greedy, can we not? Something that borders on addiction. "I want to be simple, to be happy with naught...buy my greedy heart wants all that you got." So true, so true! I love that last stanza!

"my greedy heart
wants all that you got"

i love the way it ends. a wonderful description throughout, and then to be tied together with that last line that syas it so simply and unapologetically.

I like this new characteristic of the heart. I never heard it described in this manner before. It is interesting and new. Most of all there is a lot of truth in it. There is a sweetness in this even though it seems at first like you are making light of the hearts desires. I love the uniqueness in this poem.

This is marvelous! It speaks so profoundly about the abyss of our needs, especially the needs of lust and love which can be virtually insatiable! We may have much, but we still want more! That's the human condition (is that all there is, we ask)! This is a thoughtful and contemplative write, which I enjoyed very much!

i really like stand alone lines, especially when they're very strong, such as yours are. another thing that i love is when you alter just a tiny little thing about the repitition, just to make it interesting and witty. Therefore, i fell completely in love with "how greedy is the/this human heart" you pulled off your argument well, and within a great poem structure. what more could i ask for?

I couldnt have said it better myself. We all want more than what we have even if what we have is what we want. When you have something so great you cant help but wonder what else is there to it. Hearts are greedy by nature, because there is always more to be found. :-)

Of the several pieces I've read of yours, I like this the least. I sincerely hope you will not be offended but I know you can do a lot better. You have a lot of talent!!
