he's passing through my heart / stealing all my breath

he's passing through my heart / stealing all my breath

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

"please don't go," i whisper
into the curves of his lips.
[clutching his fingers to my chest]
i smile, lest he notice
the trembling tears upon my cheek
but it's too late, i'm weak,
and crumbling at his feet.

"please stay," i breathe
into the palm of his hand.
[as i press a kiss to his skin]
his eyes peruse me with innocent disdain
and suddenly 'i love you'
sounds like a ridiculous refrain.

"but i love you," i gasp
with the last vestige of my pride.
[feeling his fingers slip from my touch]
i can't; it's too much,
so I allow my dewy eyes reprieve
yet somehow through the darkness
i see him leave
i see him leave.

And with this... she returns.

This piece shows why there is a hole in the Cafe' without your work.
So simplistically stated, but with beauty and brilliance... you have written about a depth of loss that only an artist could feel.

Lovely work... Gordon

I remember clutching the one I love as he slipped through my fingers just like the tears I shed - this poem hit a chord with me - I read it when you first posted, but I couldn't think of the words to express how much this touched me. I hope you can tell

Marvelous! How lovely your description of loss reluctance, shall we say.. I could not stop my eyes from reading ~ for even in the sadness, I found visual beauty.. Loved this..

Very painful and filled with emotion........the most awful thing watching someone
distant themselves from you........feeling that love gone and no matter what you say the
ghost of him remains and thats all.......such a sorrowful piece.

When 'please' and 'i love you' aren't enough anymore. It really is one of the most heartbreaking moments many of us have to go through.

The opening stanza is by far my favorite in this short yet powerful piece, my love. It opens with such desperation that it makes my heart cringe. To picture this scene makes me want to cry. Very beautifully done. I'm glad you're regaining your poetic voice.

This was so very powerful. It took me right into its wonder, and wouldn't let me go. I really loved it! Thanks go out to Gordon for sharing it with me, and thanks to you for writing it.

Great "return poem"...you're amazing when it comes to showing emotion, my dear! This is like a picture painted beautifully and duitifully...I can feel your pain at watching your lover leave, and the indifferenece in his heart as he goes. I have felt this... I love the imagery of your "dewy eyes"...wow!
