I never knew lonely / 'til I knew you

I never knew lonely / 'til I knew you

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

Here I am (again)
all by myself (again)

I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

My favorite place to be was always by myself,
Then you walked in and took my heart off of the shelf.
You polished it and kissed it, taught it how to feel.
You spoke and somehow convinced it
that your love was real.

But here I am (again)
all by myself (again)
I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

The love from a flower was enough to make me fly,
Then you clipped my wings but still convinced me I was high.
You touched me and I trembled; I thought that it was you.
But perhaps I was simply carried away
by feelings that were new.

And here I am (again)
all by myself (again)
I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

I was so caught up in your words I forgot to hear your tune,
They say the moon can make you crazy so it must have been the moon.
Before I met you I was happy, and my soul was free.
You loved me for all the same reasons
that you hated me.

So here I am (again)
all by myself (again)
I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

When a guy walks in and loves you, it changes everything.
Where before there was nothing—it feels like everything.
You showed me the world from a different angle, with a different light.
But that doesn’t ease the ache inside
or make what you did right.

Because here I am (again)
all by myself (again)
and

I never knew lonely ‘til I knew you.

Oh now that's a good expression of what is often felt and not able to be put into words at that moment of experiencing them.
In love with the excitement or the emotions overwhelmed.
You did a wonderful job on this!!!I related to Dales sentiments of how someone can love you and be trying to change you at the same time and then dump you for being you. I'm glad I've learned and have grown, now I'd say 'good riddance', you don't deserve me anyway!

What an amazing poem. This is my first to read of yours, and I'm definately going to read more. The emotion in this just leaps off the screen and into the heart. Great writing.

I was so caught up in your words I forgot to hear your tune...

That's such a great line. The entire poem is wonderful! It has a great rythym (I haven't read one of your's yet that doesn't) and I can so relate.... My favorite place to be was always by myself... I would have been fine if he'd just left me alone. It's very simply stated and the repetition keeps bringing home the point. I really enjoyed this!

Oh my, I just found my new favorite!! I love this piece. There are so many lines here that just make me stop and read them again, wanting to savor the emotion that you put forth. The song like quality truly makes this piece shine too. I could hear a melody in my head as i read this, and if there ever was something that needed to be set to music then this it! great work, I love it :))

I can so relate to this, having many women put me though the torment. So often I will be comfortable being alone, and then someone flies in for a brief instant, leave a mark and a hole in my heart. It makes me sad but take some solace in the fact that others (even women!) can feel this emptieness too. We are truly one. Structurally tho, I found the repetition to detract form the message, I personally think anyone who is enraptured by your words here doesn't need to be reminded why in this manner

Intensity of emotions abound in this memorable poem. I love how you harp on letting your love know that he brought along a sad feeling along with his love. "I never knew lonely til I knew you. This feeling that one had clipped your wings while convincing you that you were still soaring had a great resonance in me also.

These are some very heartfelt words.

Love,

Nihad

Yeah, I've known guys like that. It makes me think with love so painful, one could do bad all by themsleves. I liked your rhyme scheme, but did not think your flow was even or steady. I loved the sentiment behind realizing how someone could ust as bad for you as they are good for you. Nicely written, I'm glad I read this.
