i turn away for a moment, and you are goneA Poem by Kara Emily KrantzIf I could hold this finite moment in my fingertips I would fan it before you like flower petals and wish you keep it.
I would dig deep into the dark, moist earth and bury it there. so that we may return to this place (one day), lay upon the grass and feel it pulsate beneath us.
for the earth remembers everything.
It recalls the tilt of your smile and the lilt of your voice and the blossoming bursting dewdrops of your eyes. It holds each touch within its embrace, and lovingly soaks up the moistness of my tears.
It, too, aches for the loss of you.
The earth recalls your smile and our joy. It was inspired by our love.
Yet now, the earth searches endlessly, fruitlessly, for a place to hold my pain.
"But this does not belong here," it whispers.
I place my palm against the soil. "I know." © 2012 Kara Emily KrantzFeatured Review
