i turn away for a moment, and you are gone

i turn away for a moment, and you are gone

A Poem by Kara Emily Krantz

If I could hold this finite moment in my fingertips

I would fan it before you like flower petals

and wish you keep it.

I would dig deep into the dark, moist earth

and bury it there. so that we may return to this place

(one day), lay upon the grass

and feel it pulsate

beneath

us.

for the earth remembers everything.

It recalls the tilt of your smile

and the lilt of your voice

and the blossoming bursting dewdrops

of your eyes.

It holds each touch within its embrace,

and lovingly soaks up the moistness

of my tears.

It, too, aches for the loss of you.

The earth recalls your smile and our joy.

It was inspired by our love.

Yet now,

the earth searches endlessly, fruitlessly, for a place

to hold my pain.

"But this does not belong here," it whispers.

I place my palm against the soil. "I know."

Despite not being bound by rhyme, i finding a rhyming quality in your poem. perhaps the sorrowful music in your words struck a chord in me. Simply put, it is a beautiful piece.

I don't know what the matter with me is, but I write like this sometimes, and still I find YOUR poem to be such a beautiful example on just exactly how personal and true to heart a selfless love can be!! What a beautiful piece, Kara!! xoxo -Mark

"It recalls the tilt of your smile
and the lilt of your voice"

The above line I really loved, and the closing of the poem especially. The whole piece flowed wonderfully, but these two parts really made it for me ... very poignant.

You speak colors and emotions to life... caressing the sky and those lingering reflections of love and life... now so distant except in memory... What a beautiful, bittersweet aching...

Hey you're back on :).

Such a sad ode to a love gone, and perhaps at his grave. The sentiments of the earth are touching. Nice write.

Oh wow, this is just stunning. So much warmth, more than emotion but love permeates the reader as their eyes move across your words. Beautiful writing Kara.
