A Cold Winona Night

A Cold Winona Night

A Story by L. Sans
"

A job goes wrong for two mysterious men.

"

“It’s been one helluva winter,” the bigger man said to the smaller man as he unloaded the body from the back of the SUV.

“Yeah, the ice sure is making our job difficult,” the smaller man replied to the bigger man as he finished cutting a sufficient sized hole in the ice of Lake Winona.

“I still don’t get why we didn't just dump it in the Mississippi,” the bigger man complained.

“Boss said there would be too many workers, too many potential witnesses.”

“We’re right next to the road,” the bigger man insisted.

“Hey!” the smaller man demanded. “I don’t make the f*****g rules, I just do what the boss tells me to do.”

“Okay, okay,” the bigger man whispered. “Is that hole done yet? I think this body is starting to stink.”

“Its been dead less than an hour, that’s you that stinks.”

The two men dressed in black pea coats carried the body over to the sufficiently sized hole. They aimed it and dropped it in, headfirst.

“There. Problem solved,” the smaller man said to the bigger man. “Now can we get back on the road? I’m sick of being in this podunk little town.”

“Yeah, but this time I’m driving,” the bigger man insisted. “Maybe then we can avoid hitting any more deer.”
