Living in Anger

Living in Anger

A Poem by Sandra Rains DeBusk
"

Abuse has many forms.

"

Anger for a child
can seem so real
They don't know how to sort it out
they don't know what to feel

But isn't it crazy how something said
can be blown all out of whack?
And how the pain of words can linger
Because you can not take words back

Imagine how a child must feel
hearing words that we spit out
Imagine what their thought's must be
It confuses them, no doubt

Here is mommy and daddy
whom this child trusts so much
forgetting she is too young
to hear these things and such

Imagine how she must feel
her world is torn apart
Did you realize that your words
were going to break her little heart?

The next time that your angry
and feel the need to spill
Look at her and think...
Imagine how she feels.

Excellent insight. Stepping outside of our turmoil for the moment and realizing the effect our words have especially on littler ones could help us make better decisions.

Good rhyming scheme and great advice! This poem reminds me of one's I have read from a published author. Her poems are in little books and on cards, but I can't remember her name at the moment. Anyway, it's a compliment when i say that! Barbara

This is so true - we need to watch what we say around children, they grow up so fast as it is & saying cruel things around them won't help. :( I really loved this poem & it's message. Very rewarding to read. :)
