Life isn't always what it seems

I owe you so much more than my pain 

But i can't keep explaining myself

It feels like i'm draining out

It's hard being your lover 

Always having to remain undercover 

I don't want to walk out the back door anymore 

I deserve more 

If I give you all my love 

Will you throw it away...

When you tell me you love me 

I must be crazy to still believe it

Why can't I be your first choice 

constantly living behind this 

fucked up fairy tale 

that you won't leave me

This poem speaks to the tragedy of affairs. If he truly loved her, she’d be her “first choice.” Of course, the wife or other woman doesn’t realize she’s also number 2. Eventually he’ll have neither, at least not their hearts. And, that’s tragic. A love that could’ve been and so well expressed in this poem.
