DiabetesA Poem by STurnerI never know for sure
Diabetes Small word Four syllables Life changing beyond belief Doctors slap on the label Over 23 million times Then why do I feel so alone? Diabetes Small word Four syllables The tip of the Iceberg Separation from others I’m different now The same outside, changed within They say there’s An emotional component Even as I manage this condition I still feel Depressed Overwhelmed I no longer know me Diabetes Is at the core But every time I see a doctor Something else Has gone wrong My body is failing Small word Four syllables A powerful lesson Acceptance comes hard Embracing each day My own mortality © 2009 STurner |
