The Whole Angel Thing

On October 19, 2006, I wrote what follows (with minor changes) to my family and friends.  Since then I have been working closely with Belle on many things including the building of this website. I cannot describe the peace of mind and quiet joy I have as she hovers close to my elbow.  Therefore this work “The Whole Angel Thing” is dedicated to my beloved Guardian Angel.

I once thought as many of you that the whole angel thing was “foo-foo” and trendy. Today, I can tell you that I was wrong. Angels are spiritual guides and helpers, who beyond our human understanding love us right here and right now, wherever we are in life. Why? Simply because they want to. They don’t have to watch over us nor do they have some divinely military orders from a patriarchal god, they are required to follow. It’s not about who we are or what we have or haven’t done. They are here because we are precious to them in all of our imperfections.

Gabriel is the archangel who came to me a number of times over the past few years. I had a hard time accepting that an archangel would have anything to do with little old me. I mean, archangels are the CEO’s of the angelic realm. Gabriel told me that archangels come to those of us that have a tough time accepting angels in our lives. That made sense to me. I was (am) considered a hard case. When you have a product as important as unconditional love to give away, you don’t send a salesperson to a tough consumer, you send the boss to close the deal. And, oh, by the way… if you don’t believe in “winged creatures from on high” that’s okay. Angels come to us in ways that we can most easily accept. Gabriel, surely, did not come to me to me as he is so often depicted. He was by all appearances, very different. Gabriel assures me that some angels may be here walking upon us. That is really a tough act. It takes a lot of work on their part to significantly lower their energetic vibrations to walk on this plane of existence.

I am equally assured that God as we know and understand SHIM is very different from the jealous Biblical type that I personally could not understand or accept. Oh, and something else. Angels come to us where we are. Someone might have gotten the word while talking to a burning bush. Me, well, different again. Big surprise, huh? I was sitting in my favorite health foods store in downtown Portland drinking a cup of coffee and eating a bagel. No fooling!

She, my guardian angel, who came to me after my interludes with boss Gabriel said that her name was closest to the Greek word for beautiful. After doing some research and pouring through countless dictionaries, She allowed me to call her Belle. Belle is French for beautiful.

Belle is also is very courteous. She knew Belle would be a name that I would remember. Belle is sweet, simple and also the name of my first real girlfriend.

Belle, who is both my Angel and my Muse explained that she wanted me to e-mail “Angel” to everyone on my list. She was certain that some would not read this correspondence and delete it. But she was also certain that someone would be open to it and would be healed by it. So it is in faith that I send all of you, “Angel.”

Blessing and love to all,
