Innocent Blood

Innocent Blood

A Poem by Samuel H. Ludke

Floating through the endless dream,
Flowing down the endless stream,
I'm certain that the bad has passed on,
We can't forget forget we've just begun,
From twinkling stars and sleepless nights,
We float on to defend our rights,
We float with musket in hand,
Fresh is the victory song from the band,
Heavens hand took those young men,
We know they did all they certainly can,
For the King is watching us row,
Hear the cawing of death's crow,
Reach the shore, turn and fire,
Lord protect us in this situation so dire,
When our blood soaks this unworthy ground,
They'll bury us all in the mound.
For freedom now and ever after more,
We slug through battle for the poor.
I've been shot and I've been hit,
I regret not my service, not one bit.
