Murder and the Body at Sea

Murder and the Body at Sea

A Poem by Samuel H. Ludke

Lost is lost,
when I thought your kiss be a loving host,
I did find that I had lost the most.
When sorrows mount and grace it flees,
when I had reached for my keys.
Don't look for me by water's edge,
The murder occurred with a sledge.
My body floats right out to see,
no punishment for the death of me.
I want him caught, I want him found,
quick, release the mighty hound!
If I'm not found before I rot,
the killer misses his cell cot.
He runs free this very day,
the judge will surely have no say.
I am dead now, yes it's true,
I'm far away in the deep blue.
With flesh and bone I feed the crabs,
my estate is surely up for grabs.
My family cries into the night,
they try to find me with all their might.
Truth be told, I'm happier here,
I care not for your loathsome jeer.
