Fear of Death

Fear of Death

A Poem by Samuel H. Ludke

Fearful of death I am not.
I fear not the unending darkness that will come,
I fear not my heart stopping, the blood spilling, the cold exterior.
Fearful of death I am not.
I fear not the memories I'll lose,
I fear not the symptoms, the clues.
I fear not the family members who wheep,
Fearful of death I am not.

When the end draws near,
The painful scream you will not hear.
I am love and my love lives on.
Fearful of death I am not.

Do not fear for my soul today,
I'm sure I will be okay.
These words live on in your thought,
fearful of death I am not.

I'll peace at peace atop the mountain,
I'll sit quietly by the fountain.
But when I go and see you not,
Fearful of death I am not.
