The Dark Lily of Heaven

The Dark Lily of Heaven

A Story by Samuel Pennell
"

From a series of poems I am writing called "Poems about Emptiness"

"

Like a dark lily fluttering in the wind as the sun fades

Darkness descended on him. As he washed the dishes, his mind faded, and he slipped into a drowsy, satanic depression. The drug rubbed up against his mind, and his world began to fade out. His world turned empty and abstract. Meaningless. What felt like a spell of black magic was upon him.

"Does all this darkness mean anything?" He asked himself. "Perhaps it strengthens my soul the way my father said it did-perhaps it means nothing, and I should abandon it." Inside of his head was one of the scariest places to be. Increasingly, he realized that the inside of his head was far scarier than any place he could go outside of it.

As the hours and days washed over him, increasingly he felt nothing. The nothingness devoured more and more, until nothing was everything.

reminds me of early Stephan King's writings ... sets the stage for horror ... i think this is a strong bit of prose .. (hope i am using the term correctly) .. its even a short story of sorts .. it stands alone .. hooked me and kept me there ... and i agree with you about abusing drugs ...not healthy at all .. enjoyed the read

i can see- toward the drug and running way from it and the side effects...

parting the poem by the effects is a really good idea...other dont do that...
thanks for a different poem...
make me think...
