Battered LoveA Poem by SammyShe was lying in bed with her blanket held tight When she heard the creak of a floorboard late at night, Scared to death she knew who it was the demon of her nightmare The one she was made to call "Boss".
Pulling the blanket high over her head She sobbed and whimepered wishing she was dead, The creaks grew louder and she cried and cried She wished to God that she could feel nothing inside.
The demon opened the bedroom door Looking like a monster in the shadows, She wondered why he was like this What had made him so hollow?
Walking over to the bed As she cried with a racing heart-beat, He ripped the blanket away from her And screamed "Why couldn't you love me?!"
He raised his arm over his shoulder Getting ready to batter, But she looked him in the eye And said "You were never the one who mattered"
She took a deep breath And found her inner strength, Grabbed her secret safety knife And whispered "Goodbye".
