The First Stirrings                 Sami Khalil

An English sonnet

The first stirrings were a mothers’ own love

The spark of life given in children’s hearts

Preceded by a gentle promise from above

Sanguine of red faces scouted in arts.

The second stirrings were that of learning

Setting the sights and all senses head on

Disavowing notions of tired yearning

To know of self and how the world is done.

The third stirrings were Valentines’ romance

A blithe spirit and varied hot passions

Robust singing of forest walks and chance

Colors, aromas gather without sanctions.

The fourth stirrings were that of own death

Land grabbing bodies in sickness or health.

Yes, I finally decided to take a little tour of your profile. and I am already very pleased with my visit.

I think it's a poem about the cycle of life and how new teachings always come to us mostly from pain and love I used to say that when I wrote poetry, I was always nourished by pain and love, so my teacher said, "The most beautiful lessons come from there," and this poem completely reminded me of that.

A perfect explanation of how life starts with mother/family and how the way we view life determines how we are raised. Then we learn to look at life with dreams and discover ourselves, and then a lover, a love that covers your shortcomings in life and holds on to your truths, and the inevitable death and germs.

I am amazed by the flow, message and writing of this poem.

Your poem beautifully captures the different “stirrings” of life, moving through love, learning, romance, and finally mortality. Such strong evocative imagery too...

Wow! Thank you so much Tab-90 for your lovely visit and sharing.
Such profoundly beautiful, powerful words... a journey of sorts across time... across a life. These stirrings are so like a song.

I love how you capture the stages of life through the metaphor of stirrings; from a mother's love to learning, to romance, and eventually death. Well written

It's really a poem carved out of developmental psychology, which is stirred with intense feelings of life which is concrete. Excellent and great poem.

I do agree wholeheartedly. Thank you so much Dorian for your time and effort.
Yes the stages are just like classical music Sami. It’s hard to believe in two more generations we will be forgotten and in 2600 the world may not exist as we know it. Stephen Hawkings said if the world population grows at this exponential rate by 2600 we will be standing shoulder to shoulder. Nice write Sami.
