An English Sonnet…

All is quiet in the silence of night

As my mind flirted with darkened shadows

Moms creeping on with baby carriages’ flight

Behind hearses of pain and loss arose.

 

Blithe chronicles of crowded and blurry

Faces undefined of mystic strangers

Countless deaths tangled in mess and fury

Strolling my thoughts, clear and present dangers.

 

Pure indulgences of Satan-yaho’s bliss

A cold embrace of revengeful mad strain

Discarding daises in the sacred abyss

Tattered longings of genocide and pain.

 

I, for one see, a sky so grand, broken

As the black nights approach the dawn’s token.

I totally agree. We are commanded as humans to choose peace, justice, mercy and fairness but hardly any is committed. We must err on the side of compassion and not just caution. Thank you so much dear poet and friend for all.

while i can feel the anger in the subtitle of this work, the text itself is full of tenderness and beauty. nietzsche said, 'while fighting monsters, be wary not to become a monster yourself,' and i hope you heed these words. it seems as though you have, the sonnet here is well-crafted, disciplined, and full of soft expressions. that is not to say you have not stared into the abyss - this verse is not blind to the reality of war and the crimes being committed. how is it that this has happened... yet again... i share your lament.

Wow! So true and well articulated dear poet and friend. I lived in a civil war before and I experienced all of that; looking at our current reality, it can either harden hearts or soften them in empathy. Wars show that man is his own predator. Thank you so much for your love and compassion towards the oppressed, downtrodden and the innocent lambs led to the slaughter. Take care!

I think the only thing louder than your righteous poem Sami, is the cries of the Palestinian people, the children running to escape US supplied 2000 pound bombs (called bunker busters), and Israeli stormtroopers who make a game of shooting "moving targets". And now, with the incoming madman here in the US, there is the announced threat of even more devastation. A "black night" has been robbing the Palestinian people of 'sunlight' since 1948 and the Nakba.

Thank you Sami, for this courageous poem and for standing against genocide. I, for one, will gladly stand with you!!
