Still the Queen

Happens to lots of men especially in some countries... Thus is not about me, but I have seen it happens. Rejection is devastating.

For days on end, I waited patiently

Dawdled I did for a timely moment

A ring in hand to offer graciously

Under a leafy tree through bestowment.

 

On terra-cotta tiles, your dad heard steps

Like police boots and heart roaring in fire

In his rocking wood chair, he showed biceps

As the clock melted in dreadful ire.

 

A resounding “No” made no sense to me

Dashing hopes when failed to impress his kind

The butter-fly flew past the glib and glee

For no bells will be heard in anchored bind.

 

I stood back then watching the gulf between

Till two horizons meet, you're still the queen.

This lines are emotionally equipped...
You know.. there is holding to hope till the last min.. especially during wedding ceremony...
I can up with mention of Gulf_ only to tell of hope not reassuring only narrow escape lol..

Queen makes King feel as king.. she can be Queen .

If she were the Queen of Hearts, then 'off with his head' would be heard and 'let the wedding begin'!! but alas, tradition's chains still hold and bind. perhaps one day we will end this property of first father, then husband, and women will determine their own fate.

well said and conceived. yes, still a lot of old school countries and families. i guess the writer didn't get the king's blessing on the proposed nuptials. long live the queen - there's always eloping!

Hehehe! So true and well articulated. It is as you say in many countries in the world. You have to ask the dad's permission in marriage after her: not sure if it is still practiced in the good ol' USA.
