How Pages Turn                by Sami Khalil

How pages turn and love for you still burns

Filling the books of yesteryears and now

As we bargain “Father Time” who but yearns

To charge us ‘health’ where uncertainties plow.

Mornings return when sunsets shy away

A lion caged beholds beacons of hope

For his kingdom had felt actively prey

As the queen’s reign danced upon a tight rope.

I know what is etched deep is designed for

For full living and to fill the great void

To stir the souls deadlocked, sacredly pour

The insatiable dreams slaked and wheels oiled.

Succumb not to despair, but build upon

Time departs hence, love lingers when all gone.

Sami,
Sounds like you are writing from personal experience. I'm seventy-five years old and am unhappy no one told me how expensive the flow against "Father Time," what a perfect image! And from what I can see, there are too many deadlocked souls who have forgotten their dreams.

Such a finely written sonnet, Sami. It lends its format to that feeling of arms enclosing true and lasting love Could it be a recipe that with all the right ingredients provides and proves the very best from generation to generation forever? Sighing with the thoughts your words conjur.

Yes, Sami, love lingers as we wither. Love takes no holiday because we become frail, and stays and belongs to those we affect even after we are gone. Your "turning of the page" is a great metaphor for how love, like a good book will stay with all the people who have read it. Sami, besides the title of POET, we could add 'MASTER SONNETEER'. Well written Sami!!

Wowzy woooo! I so appreciate and agree with you dear poet and friend.
All rich blessings.
To do a simple review in return...but, alas! Not so!
I read a deeply ingrained seed of lasting love.
The author cannot bargain Father Time away. I feel you.
The rest of the poem is chilling to my soul with hope, memories and the fact "love lingers on".
Beautiful.
