Love Birds

Love Birds

A Poem by Sami Khalil

Love Birds                     by Sami Khalil

Dismal are the days of wither and wilt

When you bloom like a blazing petalled rose

A true eye candy sweet, a sun-kissed guilt

Undressing love, breathing life in lore’s throes.

As I bare my soul, contrast to known fear

While you sit silent by, holding your breath

We feel the quiet burden lifted near

Hanging over bleary eyes and fire’s death.

We are two birds flying in painted skies

Set to flight through night dreams and reveries

Where we abide in Nature’s finest drives

Fiddling with things, beholding memories.

Darling! I cherish that whispered answer

Both joy and pain and the pouring laughter.

i read this in a very masculine, sonorous voice. it certainly has tenderness, but there is also a lot of strength. i know certain women will really find this a turn on.
my favourite lines were: 'We are two birds flying in painted skies /Set to flight through night dreams and reveries.' it's a great, dreamy imagery that reminded me of the scene from Aladin. sharp writing throughout and full of vitality. good work.

Sami, your sonnets always deliver and inspire. I have missed you, dear poet.

Ah, love, such sweet sorrow/ joy, laughter,/ like there's no morrow.
And yet, dreams, reveries,/ to oft fade like memories,
less we hold dear, those flames of whispered comraderies.

May your love (and poetry) always bring pouring joy and laughter, Sami.

Dear Sami...Baring s one's soul takes a lot of courage....this is beautifully written, a bittersweet romantic piece... love seems a bit unbalanced in this piece, yet at the end there seems to be more togetherness...overcoming the pain that was and perhaps still is....all memories are not joyous...
Thank you for sharing
Warmly, B

You describe the emotions attached to love brilliantly in this well written English sonnet. There is joy and there is pain....but when one overshadows the other, things are not so romantic. Sami, you are so good at writing form poetry. Kudos to you. Lydi**
