High Cost

High Cost

A Poem by Sami Khalil

High Cost                    by Sami Khalil

An English Sonnet...

I lost my train of thoughts so many times

They come like fireflies dancing and glowing

I can’t quite wrap my head around what chimes

Beguiling speech or love words echoing.

Things are not like they used to be that rhyme

They feel tragic, not in good harmony

Some grow cold to fires, shown in their prime

Finding release in status and money.

Let me testify what I can’t deny

Love can signify worth and brighter days

Procuring a lifeline, a rich supply

Before casting stones, try its gentle ways.

Like a ship in raging storms, we are lost

Those who find joy care less for the high cost.

Yes, be gentle; before casting stones… now that is beautiful; of which the cost is never too high 🙏🏻🕊

I am so angry with myself for not having read these poems before, I feel very lucky to have met you, sir. I didn't even know there were poets who could actually write such words. Teach us how to keep your poems as a whole and at the same time each sentence carries a different story, Your poems nourish my soul.

I can't even speak enough to describe how much I love your poems, and yet you can write poems like this.

I agree wholeheartedly dear poet and friend. Thank you and I will. Gracie millee.
A wonderful sonnet dealing with a concept that has also been weighing on my mind: the way so many pursue status as though it were food and water and to the detriment of all else. We are shielded from the most valuable and life-giving by the pursuit of status and unfortunately ... also the pursuit of virtue ... or at least the appearance of virtue. Once again Sami ... a very find write.

Earthy pleasures are the curtains that hide the true void from one's core and this void is stubborn indeed. Peace is silent. It is a heartfelt write.

you can't put a price on happiness and true love is worth far more than its weight in gold and these days of living on credit don't help - there is a price for these "real things" and they must be paid in cash from the heart.
