Lest We Become

Lest We Become

A Poem by Sami Khalil

Lest We Become           by Sami Khalil

An English Sonnet...

Seldom in winter’s nights nor summer days

As dawn and dusk move across mountains

You reign not in my thoughts with splendid ways

Toasting to love, astride sky and fountains.

Oh, how solace the litany of binds

Leaning and reflecting on you, my dear

Things come in waves, of duos grits and grinds

I climbed steep hills, carved canyons in great cheer.

Who lit the path, who planted the garden

Shed tears when roses took their roots, blooming?!

I formed the flowered notes, songs to hearken

Wrapped in moonlight shadows, stargaze wooing.

Beauty bestowed! How true the narrative…

Lest we become… vows are not durative.

"vows are not durative" lovely line.
You are the master of sonnets, combining nature and love.
I usually cannot stand sonnets...they always seem so forced...so contrived.
Yours are different, natural...explosive.
