Suffering

Suffering

A Poem by Sami Khalil

Suffering              by Sami Khalil

I pause to catch glimpses of passing clouds

Inching across Gentian skies and pink

Over rubble and dust, rambling white shrouds

Where aching sounds and lives lost in a blink.

I cause my wandering mind to meander

Skipping shadows casted and dreamy wings

Where blades of grass do sway and hopes clamber

Sounds of thunder and drifted lightening slings.

I spy a flock of sheep tarried, stranded

Nowhere to run from the butcher at hand

With first harvest of souls and pride branded

Reaping his hate-filled face, yielding quicksand.

I rub my eyes in disbelief wondering

How to rehearse farewell songs to suffering.

A powerful and too true poetry. In a world. Filled with tragedy. We can become so cold and listless to the pain of the world. Thank you Sami for sharing the outstanding poetry. You left the reader with a lot to ponder.

this might sound strange but i felt the butcher and the dream being the same person. one being the sheeps end noticing the bravery and accepted peace of fate. the other more innocent desiring to more highly honor the act of the sheep and what they once had. very strange to be cursed of empathy and respect, reject and beauty of any moment . being aware and appreciating them both spontaneously in a balanced fulfilment.

A poem which hurts the soul of anyone who is peace loving and abhors the hatred and carnage currently being played out on our planet. Dear Sami, the imagery here is superb, as is the elegance of your pen, but my oh my it is a painful read dear poet.

Indeed Sami, the world's on fire. no matter where you look, there is suffering... slaughter, then revenge, then more slaughter to avenge the revenge, repeat, then repeat again... the world will live on, but humanity??? it will go out with hardly a whimper at the hands of revenge... it's ironic, I think, some actually enjoy and defend the slaughter and the revenge... as a true poet, you invoke many emotions with your words, I think a good blues song would be fitting... pen on my friend...

certainly captures the mood. impressive, hard-hitting word knitting. this one hits a little too close to home for me. i for one would not be thinking of a song. reminds of the jewish holocaust when the nazis played music over loudspeakers as people were being led into gas ovens ... :)
