War and Peace

War and Peace

A Poem by Sami Khalil

War and Peace            by Sami Khalil

Lend me an ear, listening to my voice

Lend me a tear to feel my few sorrows

Hard to be whole when one cannot rejoice

Alarmed at the future event that follows.

Hardships abound when homework is not done

When lighthouses are dimmed when begged to shine

Neither harvest sans the sun, nor dry run

Your next dawn will rise up on forehead’s sign.

War and peace are two sides of the same coin

Marks of doom and hope-filled gaps in between

Watching the waves crash where regret paths join

They were nightmares as far as I could glean.

Life’s fragile and so hearts keep pulsating

Blood-soaked as love on tight ropes abating.

dearest Sami… living each day with yesterdays pardon… we reflect the Light stolen by Strangers who left their own unkept gardens to trample on years of Cultivated plantings that nourish our passion for a Home of the Free… Let Liberty Ring …. Amen… Pat

I am bewildered by the perfection of your wonderful sonnet and focused little on the issue of war and peace.War has become a periodical rather seasonal business of war mongers.Peace is a business pause.
What the fate and hope for the innocent people, nobody knows. But,keep on writing and shouting against war whatever way you can.Let Peace prevail everywhere.Let the children, elderly , women and all people work and sleep in peace.

Repetition is often thought boring, but, once again: if the first war ever fought was thought to be a solution, why have there been so many wars fought throughout Time! Is it easier and cheaper to make arms and kill thousands than to think and talk?!?! Yes, many will say - because.. .. ..

'Hardships abound when homework is not done
When lighthouses are dimmed when begged to shine
Neither harvest sans the sun, nor dry run
Your next dawn will rise up on forehead’s sign'

Those four lines say what the world should fee then - act upon.
Your words are put so finely and truly, Sami, you in your own way contribute so much with your wise, calm - and also, beautiful language.

The common denominator for war and peace are people’s beliefs and maybe the square root of all evil. Just need a fine mathematician to come up with the equation that ends with love thy neighbour. Nice sonnet Sami.
