Zest for Life

Zest for Life

A Poem by Sami Khalil

Zest for Life       by Sami Khalil

Tell me what is real from this illusion

Tumbling of days or the spiraling dreams

The rooted nothingness of confusion

Or the marching seasons, bursting through seams.

Things come to life then die in misery

Out of fortune, out of love’s shifting sands

Mere words, adding insult to injury

Embalming wounds, banishing ifs and ands.

Many doubts linger under looming clouds

Tip-toing through wars and rumors thereof

Life once cherished has lost many cheered crowds

Farther unmindful cries of mourning dove.

Tell me things of value we can all share

Winds that lift and vows which solemnly swear.

Wow! Thank you so much dear poet and friend for this wonderful review. You are appreciated.
I think we can all share that life is too short, with so many expectations, desires.... if we could all think about the "now" and our futures, our values, there would be more calm in the universe...which is very chaotic at the moment; difficult to separate truth from lies, etc... we need to reflect and agree on some important ideas....enough division and fear......
Warmly, B

imagine my surprise when i realized that you weren't talking about the soap. sometimes i think that if we only spoke things of value it would be a much quieter world - perhaps being able to hear pins drop instead of bombs ... :)

Another well written gem Sami. Life is what you make of it in the time one has and along the way there will be gains and losses, happiness and pain, etc but life goes on regardless of our paths is what I got from this.

Oh, how poignant and melancholy. I have tears in my eyes after reading the last lines. I really felt this poem. There is such grief here, such longing. And yet, the title hints that we do find meaning. We live, and in life there is hope. Thank you for sharing this. Your words will linger.

This is more than about in and possibly being in love. It is about being human and all that it entails. Especially today.
