A modern English sonnet…

There is deafness in the air that lingers

Calling out things left between us unsaid

Paying no mind to me, pointing fingers

Had I gone to great lengths, failing instead.

 

Failure needs neither speech nor ears to hear

Only dreamscape statues to behold thus

What a stranger who bounces back from fear

Whistle and walk like a hero, nonplus.

 

Hold your breath through the canvas of the night

Confident the briny tears shall avail

I ponder words that bind some beings tight

Leaving indentations of sketchy trail.

 

There is no pleasure in low hanging fruit

Fondly praised are the wins in earned pursuit.

Nothing worth having is easily gained. Unfortunately, we live in a time where people want things without putting forth much effort. In so far as a relationship goes, "low hanging fruit" is not going to cut it. It takes effort.
