Low Hanging Fruit

Low Hanging Fruit

A Poem by Sami Khalil

Low Hanging Fruit      by Sami Khalil

Thoughts on failure and success in relationships.

An English Sonnet...

There is deafness in the air that lingers

Calling out things left between us unsaid

Paying no mind to me, pointing fingers

Had I gone to great lengths, failing instead.

Failure needs neither speech nor ears to hear

Only dreamscape statues to behold thus

What a stranger who bounces back from fear

Whistle and walk like a hero, nonplus.

Hold your breath through the canvas of the night

Confident the briny tears shall avail

I ponder words that bind some beings tight

Leaving indentations of sketchy trail.

There is no pleasure in low hanging fruit

Fondly praised are the wins in earned pursuit.

Sami!
What a delightful bunch of insight, and so precisely described. You have a special talent for imagery and metaphor, but even more importantly, the GIFT OF WORDS! Rarely do I find a poet who is adept at both... do you have any idea how much difficulty most people have describing the ethereal, the abstract?

Dear poet the layers here ebb and flow washing the reader in the waters of remembrance; we've all taken a dip in this briny pond.....well done!

your words really illustrate what you are feeling. i feel it too, the burden of carrying past failiures. while it is to tell others 'forget about it' or 'you only fail if you give up' such cliches ignore what is undeniably true. to allow yourself to sit in these emotions must be therapeutic. and reading it has helped me a little to reconcile with my own past. 'Hold your breath through the canvas of the night / Confident the briny tears shall avail' is a sad yet beautiful line. and to render something painful into something beautiful is surely the best way to accept loss.

I feel that your poem reflects on the complex emotions that arise from unspoken words, unresolved connections? It explores how silence and lingering regrets can weigh on a person. But as you said so beautifully, nothing ever worth holding on to comes easy.. enjoyable read. Thank you.

Wow! Thank you so much dear poet and friend for this wonderful review. See you on your page.
another fine sonnet from a worthy poet. Often, too much time is lost in words unspoken, which if said, might lead to deeper love and not failure. We may hear, but do we actually listen?

Sami, I am glad I am reading your poetry again.
