Wintering               by Sami Khalil

She would sit in

the dim light,

to undress the last vibes

of the night;

to improve

her unflattering

language skills.

During the day,

she painted what she saw,

at face-value,

clashing with colours,

abrasive textures of humans.

She sipped on finest teas,

read Shakespeare with affectation,

dragging herself into slow motions,

vanishing into depths,

no sonars can fathom.

From a moving target,

to a personal narrative,

She eased herself

into wintering.

Her grit hushed

the mystic wombs;

the loud voices of the marginalized.

Sudden gusts still

rattle, on occasions,

the screen door of her mind.

Top notch Sami. One of my favs of yours. This is class personified. You feel the cold embrace of winter against a back drop of those trying to survive the chill. Just a multifaceted gem of a write. So pleased I got to read it.

Perhaps I'm not so adept to analyze the way others do so exceedingly well, but I know how a poem makes me feel when I read it. And I know when I walk away from it, it will stir within me immeasurably so. And I don't mind saying, Sami, this is one I wish I had written!

The quietude of night especially when it's winter and cozy does give us peace. I love giving time to myself and enjoy staying alone, although I sometimes like the noise of busy streets.

i love it and it doesn't get much better than this. it deeply reads itself with stark revelations. one could spend an eternity filling in between the lines. title, picture, the whole package brilliantly done. ... and oh that screen door - i can hear it banging in the wind ... :)
