Venus                         by Sami Khalil

And it was there that she obeyed the night

Seeking someone with voice, spirit, a heart

In stars and in dismay, burnishing bright

The kind evinced by love found, sans dawn’s start.

All the while, the vast ocean of her eyes

Fancied the waves of those formative years

Suspiring fire and finding unsaid prize

Leased to the highest bidder’s price and tears.

Shackled by sin, Venus would rather die

Bane to some written in hard-covered books

Disguised as goddess and never too shy

A movable feast to men, caught by hooks.

I felt a lone snowman, melting inside

By sun and empathy, enjoining pride.

Sami,
You are brilliant at these. A sonnet genius...who combines the old fashioned form with content
that relates to the world today.
What would Venus think of ebooks?
She would shed a tear I am sure...
