Venus                         by Sami Khalil

And it was there that she obeyed the night

Seeking someone with voice, spirit, a heart

In stars and in dismay, burnishing bright

The kind evinced by love found, sans dawn’s start.

All the while, the vast ocean of her eyes

Fancied the waves of those formative years

Suspiring fire and finding unsaid prize

Leased to the highest bidder’s price and tears.

Shackled by sin, Venus would rather die

Bane to some written in hard-covered books

Disguised as goddess and never too shy

A movable feast to men, caught by hooks.

I felt a lone snowman, melting inside

By sun and empathy, enjoining pride.

Thank you kindly for sharing your thoughts and experiences.
Is there anything more beautiful than a sonnet?
Your poem is gentle like morning's first light.

Sami,
A most alluring and contemplative piece of magically written Poetry that oozes the essence of mysteriousness wherein any man, chancing to dare court a Venus, shall never truly know where he stands, a bit off balance always of intoxicatingly tipsy in her presence, and blinded by the soft shimmer of her beauty that captivates and ensnares his every thought, his every want, his every deed, his every need, all at her beck and call of enthralled in her shadow, as even that is light in comparison to other women, women who shall never compare as did the Venus of my life, my late wife of 49 years ... But the memories remain, and shall burn on forever as long as I shall live ... A beautifully written, exemplary, piece of writing here Sami ...

I read your poem and was struck by the way you used language to create a sense of atmosphere and mood. Your words transported me to a world of stars and ocean waves, where the speaker is searching for love and meaning in a world that can be cruel and unforgiving.
I appreciated the way you used metaphors and vivid descriptions to convey the speaker's emotions, such as the "vast ocean of her eyes" and the "lone snowman, melting inside." Your words captured the feeling of being lost and alone, and the search for something greater than oneself.
Your poem also touched on some important themes, such as the struggle to find meaning in a world that can be harsh and unforgiving, and the way that love can be both a source of joy and a cause of pain. I felt a sense of empathy for the speaker in your poem, and I appreciated the way you explored these complex emotions with honesty and sensitivity.

Overall, I thought your poem was beautifully written and deeply moving. Your words captured the essence of what it means to be human, and they offered a poignant reminder of the importance of love, empathy, and compassion.
