Dust In Cursive Letters           by Sami Khalil

For mom…to all who passed away. prose poetry…just a remembrance…

For the ghost of you, I saluted every passerby (we are all such).

Unfortunately, senescence crashed the party.

I circled you like a satellite, drifting into space then through void.

No one escapes gravity without a reckoning force,

silence short of removing the duct-tape upon dry mouths.

I peered through rabbit holes, only to find no rabbits.

The truth of your departure was wrapped into boxed moments, delivered with trembling hands, stamped with common sorrows.

I tried to catch your breath through the air, simply to realize it was far too late.

My walls still hold your quiet silhouettes, like stars that can’t speak your name, even in faint whispers.

Honestly, I have lost my iron grips, clasping tired lines into confessions.

I’m hoping to drag warm blankets over your memories; the eulogies you can’t coldly ignore.

I’m not certain if it is the fog of endless grieving that makes us seethe with anger, wreathe with clangor.

Prison has cast me down, waiting on pins and needles, to be reduced to dust in cursive letters.

Oh my goodness Sami,
I think this might be the very best poem I have read of your thus far.
I am crying as I type... pretty blurry to see the letters on the keys...
I loved every word. My sisters and I alway say that when a butterfly passes by it is our mother.
I the beginning there was this one butterfly that was always near...we knew it was her...she loved butterflies.
Anyway, this line is amazing peered through rabbit holes, only to find no rabbits.
and so is this one I’m hoping to drag warm blankets over your memories; the eulogies you can’t coldly ignore.
I feel this is a brilliant write.

Wow! Lucky you. Enjoy!
This is a brilliant poem and an absolute masterpiece. Moms are wonderful. Even the most autocrat men are are weak when it comes to their mother. We shall all salute the mother's, for they forgive ours and our fathers mistakes.
Very well done Sami. Thank you very much for sharing.ay all the moms rest in piece in heaven ™

All true and well said.
The metaphors are so damn good here. I am jealous.
and that prison...one I am also in, wondering when my day comes to be ashes...if my spirit will get
to meet up with my folks again, to tell them how much they were appreciated.
"wrapped into boxed moments" "clasping tired lines into confessions" "drag warm blankets over your memories"
How do you come up with these? just amazing.

Wowzy woooo! To us you are.
An extraordinary profound use of language Sami. So many individual phrases "boxed in" "Quiet sillhoettes". So many fine descriptions of mood, atmosphere and thought. Yes, extraordinary.",
