Dust In Cursive Letters           by Sami Khalil

For mom…to all who passed away. prose poetry…just a remembrance…

For the ghost of you, I saluted every passerby (we are all such).

Unfortunately, senescence crashed the party.

I circled you like a satellite, drifting into space then through void.

No one escapes gravity without a reckoning force,

silence short of removing the duct-tape upon dry mouths.

I peered through rabbit holes, only to find no rabbits.

The truth of your departure was wrapped into boxed moments, delivered with trembling hands, stamped with common sorrows.

I tried to catch your breath through the air, simply to realize it was far too late.

My walls still hold your quiet silhouettes, like stars that can’t speak your name, even in faint whispers.

Honestly, I have lost my iron grips, clasping tired lines into confessions.

I’m hoping to drag warm blankets over your memories; the eulogies you can’t coldly ignore.

I’m not certain if it is the fog of endless grieving that makes us seethe with anger, wreathe with clangor.

Prison has cast me down, waiting on pins and needles, to be reduced to dust in cursive letters.

From the title to the content and the emotional thread woven throughout, I find this to be beautiful. The phrasing throughout is mesmerizing ...

"Dust In Cursive Letters"

"For the ghost of you"

"The truth of your departure was wrapped in boxed moments, delivered with trembling hands, stamped with common sorrows."

"I tried to catch your breath"

"clasping tired lines into confessions"

"I'm hoping to drag warm blankets over your memories" STOP!

"the eulogies you can't coldly ignore"

"fog of endless grieving"

"to be reduced to dust in cursive letters"

COME ON!

This is just so good. For me, I feel like you have been carrying around this grief and sorrow for quite a while; and it all just spilled out into this poem.

Like ashes from an urn, it speaks of a life once lived.

Very touching.

I read your poem and I must say that I was moved by the raw emotion and depth of feeling that you conveyed. The way that you explored the themes of loss, grief, and memory was both poignant and powerful, and I found myself drawn in by the vivid imagery and haunting language. The use of phrases like "circled you like a satellite" and "walls still hold your quiet silhouettes" added to the sense of longing and sadness that permeated the poem, and I appreciated the way that you captured the complexities of grief and mourning. The final lines, with their reference to prison and the inevitability of death, were particularly striking, and I thought that they added a sense of urgency and desperation to the poem. Overall, I found the poem to be a moving and evocative exploration of the human experience, and I think that it will resonate with many readers who have experienced loss and grief in their own lives. Well done.

a memorializing tribute as well as food for thought. a gentle reminder that we are all passersby. "ask not for whom the bells tolls, it tolls for thee." bill carter and stevie ray vaughan sang of "willie the wimp" being buried in a cadillac coffin). as my muse thoreau wrote, "We now no longer camp as for a night, but have settled down on earth and forgotten heaven." not an easy thing to give up the ghost when the time comes. those who touch us live on in other ways ... :)

dearest Sami… my Mother was 58 when she passed from Cancer, and I have been aging for both of us to this day. The word Senescence holds the worth of Gold . There are Vitamins B2 and E as well as Vitamin A to slow the process of Aging… Sami you are a guiding Star for all of us. Beautiful poetry to Honor our Mothers.tenderly, Pat

Much obliged.
Gorgeous artisanship of metaphors, and a moving tribute indeed. The writing flows wonderfully and emanates the intensity of your truly heartfelt salutation and love for your mother. Your lasting sorrow is hauntingly captured by the last sentence, in an expression of beauty in grief.
Best wishes to you. :)

Dear Sami, you have excelled here. An incredible write, touched my heart you did with this one. Your metaphors are so original. Only a year since I lost my own mum, so the grieving continues. This sonnet resonated. You are a fabulous poet.
